Australia needed penalties to reach semifinals

With an intense heat, that obliged to stop the game for the players to be refreshed, Germany and Australia equaled 1-1 during the second match played today at Natación y Gimnasia stadium, for the final quarters of the World Hockey League. The pass to semifinals ended 4-2 with the penalties, and the "Hockeyroos" were the ones to celebrate, finnally.

The first goal arrived at 11 minutes from the first time, after a great move of Eileen Hoffman, who entered from the left, avoiding Australian mark, and performed a powerful strike that couldn't be stopped by Lynch.

Until that moment it was a surprise that German team arrived to second round without winning a match.

Being pushed by the Asutralian girls, the Europeans were little by little taking possition in defense, leaving the bowl to the rival's hands.

It was when Ashleigh Nelson equaled for the "Hockeyroos", at 48 minutes. This was the attitude Australia needed to be fortified at the final minutes, when it was closer to reach victory.

Without defeating each other at the regulated time, Australian and German teams needed penalties to define their pass to the semifinals.

Here appeared the figure of the goalkeeper Rachel Lynch, who took care of Julia Müller and Lea Stökel's strikes. For the "Hockeyroos" counted Madonna Blyth, Kellie White, Georgie Parker and Claire Messent. For German girls, Marie Mävers and Jana Teschke.

"Hockeyroos" presented Lynch; Casey Eastham, Jodie Schulz, Anna Flanagan y Karrie McMahon; Blyth, Edwina Bone, White y Parker; Messent y Emily Smith.

For Germany played Bárbara Vogel; Tina Bachmann, Cecile Pieper, Hoffman y Katharina Otte; Hannah Krüger, Franzisca Hauke, Jane Müller y Julia Müller; Pia Oldhafer y Lena Jacobi.
